This test can’t rule out cases of chlamydia or gonorrhoea in the throat, rectum, or eyes. The British Association for Sexual Health and HIV (BASHH) recommends that swabs be taken from all exposed sites as well as three-site testing (throat, rectum, and urine) for men who have sex with men (MSM). As with all laboratory tests, it’s possible (but rare) to receive an incorrect result (a false-positive or a false-negative result).
